Falcons coach blasts referee for teams AWCON draw with Ghana

Super Falcons head coach, Florence Omagbemi is miffed with the centre referee that handled the Nigeria vs Ghana second group game in the ongoing Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
Omagbemi who insisted that the referee was very poor in the match, slammed the match official for not awarding a ‘deserved penalty’ when Asisat Oshoala was fouled in the 18 yard box.
Speaking on Etisalat Megasports Thursday morning on Star FM, Lagos, an obviously angry Omagbemi bemoaned the 1-1 draw with the Black Queens but still had some good things to say about the Ghanian opposition.
“The game was great and both teams played well. Ghana gave us a good match and it was an impressive game. The foul on Asisat Oshoala was a clear penalty in my own assessment. I was disappointed in the referee not making the call, it clearly shows one of the reasons African referees are overlooked by FIFA for international assignments.”
While saying her team wasn’t overconfident after their 6nil rout of Mali in the opener, the coach also said the Black Queens gave her team a good game.
“We were not over confident after the 6-0 victory over Mali. Today, we played against a good team and it was a good match by both teams. A draw (1-1) is not a bad result. We played well and were not expecting to draw. I’m looking forward to the game with Kenya and get a good result. We just want to play convincingly against Kenya and hopefully top the group.”
Nigeria play the whipping team of the group, Kenya in their last group game on Saturday. The Kenyans were beaten by Mali 3-1 yesterday.
