Watford forward Odion Ighalo had urged the club to make a move for out of favour Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel who is frozen out at Stamford Bridge.
Mikel’s Chelsea contract expires next summer but the Nigeria midfielder could leave Stamford Bridge in January for a small fee
Marseille and Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG, managed by Mikel’s ex-Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas, are among his suitors.
But Watford striker Odion Ighalo said: “I would like it if Mikel joined me at Watford.
“He is my captain at the national team. Apart from that he is a very good player, very talented. There is no team in the Premier League that will not want to have such a player. I am happy I have played with him so I will be very happy to have him in my team.”
The Nigerian midfielder continues to be linked with a Chelsea departure this winter having failed to force his way into Antonio Conte’s plans
