Hector Cuper releases provisional list for the Pharoahs of Egypt ahead of AFCON 2017

Pharaoahs of Egypt coach Hector Cuper has announced a 27-man provisional squad for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.

The tournament is set to kick-off on January 14 and Cuper is expected to announce his final 23-man squad in the next ten days.

Egypt are in Group D alongside Ghana, Mali and Uganda. Their first match is the tournament is on January 17 against Mali.

Zamalek striker Bassem Morsi – who has been the main striker in the past two games against Congo and Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers – is a shocking omission from the list.

Striker Marwan Mohsen has been called up after recovering from a lengthy injury layoff, having established himself as Ahly’s first-choice frontman.

Zamalek playmaker Mohamed Ibrahim made the cut after also recovering from a knee injury that has sidelined him since July.
